The Northern Lights were seen over Wall Lake in Delton before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. Jeff Baurs said they were only visible with his camera, but not the naked eye. (Chime In/WWMT)

An aurora forecast is based on the K-index, which characterizes the level of geomagnetic storms or solar activity. Traditionally, a K-index level of 7 is good enough to bring beautiful auroras to our nighttime skies. (Meteorologist Jeff Porter/WWMT){p}{/p}
