A Michigan State Police trooper seriously injured in a head-on crash returned home Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.

Police said a 32-year-old driver crossed the center line Sunday, Jan. 17, and hit trooper Christopher Haywood in Battle Creek.

He was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital where he received surgery to repair his femur.

The driver remained hospitalized, as of Jan. 22, but was expected to recover.

There has been no charges filed in connection to the crash, but police said they suspect the Kalamazoo driver was under the influence of a controlled substance.

The Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office was waiting for toxicology results.
