Michigan House of Representatives District 61 candidates discuss the issues

The candidates running to represent the Michigan House of Representatives District 61, which covers much of Kalamazoo County, including part of the city of Portage, Texas Township, and Oshtemo Township, spoke with Kirk Mason Oct. 24, 2020.

The seat is open as Republican state Rep. Brandt Iden becomes ineligible to run for office because of term limits in the Michigan Legislature.

Republican Bronwyn Haltom and Democrat Christine Morse are running for Michigan House of Representatives District 61.

Haltom attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and eventually the University of Michigan. She owns a marketing firm, and has worked on several campaigns.

Morse practiced law after attending Michigan State University, and earned her law degree from Wayne State University. She served on the Kalamazoo County Commission, District 9, starting in 2018.
