WMU Head Coach Tim Lester discusses Miami of Ohio win and the homecoming game

Western Michigan University head coach Tim Lester stopped by the Newschannel 3 studio on Wednesday after the Broncos won their third straight game against Miami of Ohio on Saturday and is looking forward to the homecoming game against Eastern Michigan University.

Jayden Reed, the freshman, with a school record tying four touchdown receptions in that heart stopping 40-39 win over Miami of Ohio.

Dee Eskridge was also over 100 yards receiving, and Drake Harris scoring his very first career touchdown as well.

Jon Wassink threw for 439 yards and 5 touchdowns. The junior also ran for 14 yards on fourth and 10 on your final drive, before scoring the game winner with under three minutes to go.

WMU’s defense and special teams put 39 points on the board for Miami, although the total is a bit deceiving in that 7 of those points came on the opening kickoff.

Miami only had 349 yards of offense, but the Broncos fumbled twice and the RedHawks turned those miscues into 10 points.

Western’s homecoming opponent will be Eastern at noon on Saturday, Oct. 6.

EMU with a pretty good 2-3 ballclub. The Eagles beat Purdue, but have since lost three straight by a total of just 13 points with those last two losses coming in overtime.

The Eagles team took the Broncos to overtime in 2017.
