BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The preliminary hearing for a Battle Creek man accused of beating his wife to death is set to begin Tuesday.
Christopher Carpenter is charged with murder and assault with intent to commit murder.
His wife, Joy, died in December after one of the worst cases of abuse police say they have ever seen.
Police said Joy told investigators the 31-year-old Carpenter would only drop her off at the hospital if she agreed to claim she was attacked by a group of women.
She later died in the hospital.
If convicted, Carpenter could face life in prison.
The hearing is expected to take several days.
