Portage Central was scheduled to kickoff against East Lansing, but a positive COVID-19 test result from the Mustangs coaching staff forced the game to be canceled.

The game was scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 and would've been the season opener.

In other areas of Michigan, a different virus was prompting schools to reschedule games.

After a horse tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Calhoun County, health officials recommended schools cancel or reschedule games to avoid mosquitoes, which transmit the virus.

An aerial spray was expected to start in certain parts of the county next week.
