CINCINNATI (WKRC) - University of Cincinnati football coach Luke Fickell has turned down the chance to be the next head football coach at Michigan State.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Fickell had interviewed for the job with Michigan State athletic department officials on Sunday in Cincinnati.

Fickell decided to stay after having conversations with new Cincinnati athletic director John Cunningham on Monday morning.

He later put on Twitter a video of the football team celebrating in the locker room and the words, "Looking forward to more of this in 2020! Who's with us?!"

It isn't known if Fickell ever received an offer from Michigan State.

In four seasons as a head coach, Fickell has compiled a record of 32-20, including an 11-3 record this past season and an 11-2 record in 2018.

The Michigan State job came open last week when Mark Dantonio resigned.
