Gabrielle Shipley and Sarah Shipley wouldn't have participated in the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship without a sponsor exemption and the sisters made the most of their exemptions.
Gabrielle had the best professional finish of her career. She tied for fourth at 9-under and started the final day in the last group with Ruixin Liu, the eventual tournament champion.
"Since I turned professional this has been the most special event with everything you said being able to play with my sister and having my family here and just I feel the support of the community and to have FireKeepers to believe in me to give me a sponsorship exemption again. Other than nationals my senior year, this is the best so far," Gabrielle said.
It was a special weekend for the Hastings natives who had a chance to play in front of their family and play so close to home. The sisters were also paired in the same group for the first time in their careers.
Even though Sarah was a long shot to win the tournament entering the final round, it was a milestone for her to be playing on the final day. The University of Kentucky golfer hadn't made the cut in her two previous appearances in the tournament. She would end the tournament in 70th place at 7-over par.
"This was my first cut so I'm really grateful for that especially since I didn't have my best game this weekend to make the cut knowing there were so many more birdies out there that's encouraging," Sarah said.
She started her final round almost an hour before her sister, Gabrielle, and after finishing her round she went back out to the course to watch her sister have the best finish of her professional career.
"It was a huge weekend for both of us. I was super excited for my sister, to see here play as great as she did I know she has been waiting on it for a while and this is the best I've seen her game look," Sarah said.
