ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WWMT) – Allegan County deputies on Thursday filed child-abuse charges against the suspect in the death of 2-year-old Kayden Blackmer, who died Friday at Bronson Hospital.

The child abuse charges, however, are unrelated to Kayden's death. The charges involve abusive treatment against Kayden's 10-month-old sister.

Joshua Duane Martin, 29, was charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse. So far, no charges have been filed in Kayden's death, though it has been ruled suspicious.

Martin is the boyfriend to Kayden's mother.

Deputies said Kayden died at Bronson on May 11, 2020, two days after being airlifted from Allegan General Hospital where he was admitted for serious injuries May 9, 2020. Allegan County family court records indicated Kayden had a skull fracture, fractured ribs, brain bleed and a collapsed lung.

Detectives said they are waiting for results from an autopsy before considering criminal charges.
