Baby Madilynn was in a hurry.

Less than half a hour into her parents' car ride and still with several miles to go until they reached Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, dad Bryan Hemenway knew he had to act fast.

Labor pains grew more intense for Hemenway's wife, Brittany. She is familiar with the pain since she has given birth before to their son Scott, but this baby was coming much faster than her big brother did. Madilynn wasn't waiting much longer to make her grand entrance into the world.

Brittany screamed at her husband that she needed to push and Bryan desperately searched for a safe place to pull over at a Speedway gas station along Interstate 94 in Mattawan, Michigan.

Bryan said he did not know specifics on how to birth babies, but he did work in the medical field as a manager of radiology at Ascension-Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He credits his calm, cool, and collected demeanor, and his wife's courage, for helping them bring their daughter into the world and keep her safe until emergency management teams arrived on scene.
