KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has announced a pilot program in Kent County, designed to improve outcomes for children in foster care.

The five-year performance-based funding model will kick off on October 1.

The program is not intended to reduce child welfare expenses to the state, but to use resources more effectively to help children and families.

There are close to 900 children in foster care in Kent County alone.
