An auto supplier plant in Mendon will be closing in May 2020 and about 230 people will be laid off.

A letter sent to members of the United Auto Workers Local 503 stated that International Automotive Components Group will not be sending any more work to the plant in Mendon. The current work orders are expected to last until May 2020.

The union stated they are trying to get severance packages for employees but said they will have to negotiate with the company.

Many of the hourly jobs at the plant pay in the neighborhood of $15 an hour.

The letter called for a vote to back a strike if it “should it become necessary” to get the severance packages.

The International Automotive Components plant laid off 83 workers in December 2018 and 64 hourly jobs in June 2018.
