PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Friends and family gathered in Paw Paw to honor the life of Alyssa Elsman and send well wishes to her family with a vigil on Friday.
Alyssa was the only victim in a crash on Thursday in Times Square and the community hosted a candlelight vigil at Maple Lake to pay their respect to the Elsman family.
A memorial was set up with photos of Alyssa and surrounded by candles.
It was a very peaceful and somber evening and roughly two dozen people turned out to show their support for the Elsman family, who are in New York City caring for Ava Elsman, who was severely injured in the New York City crash.
Family friends describe Alyssa as a wonderful girl with a great sense of humor.
Her father Thomas Elsman is a very well-known businessman in Paw Paw and the community came out to let the family to know they love them.
Tracy Newberry, a family friend, said, “We just want to let them know that we are there. It's just so bad.”
Organizers also collected donations to help the Elsman Family cover medical expenses.
There will be another fundraiser in Pap Paw at the beginning of June.
