GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Ottawa County Sheriff Department and Robinson Township Fire Department was called to the Grand River after a boat caught fire on the river in Grand Haven on Saturday afternoon.
The boat owner had launched at Conestoga Camp Ground and was in the middle of the river when he heard a pop come from the engine. He took off the engine cover and was met with flames and promptly tried to put them out with a fire extinguisher. He was unable to put the fire out and the flames increased forcing him to jump off the front of the boat. He was rescued by a passing boater.
The boat went up in flames and drifted a quarter mile down the Grand River. Robinson Township was able to spray the boat down with the help of the Ottawa County Marine Division.
