Firework shows continue in West Michigan for the Fourth of July

COVID-19 and high water have canceled most fireworks shows for the 2020 Fourth of July.

However, there is still a firework display in Union City that was still slated to take place on July 3.

According to the Caledonia Township's website, a fireworks display will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at dusk.

Coldwater's Heritage Park will also hold an Independence Day firework show on July 3, 2020.

The show will take place at its normal location in Heritage Park and will start at dark, approximately between 10:00 - 10:30 pm. The City encourages participants and spectators to practice social distancing by staying within their immediate groups and by wearing masks.

Dowagiac Young Professionals planned to host its fireworks display on July 3 at Dowagiac Municipal Airport and Russom Park off Middle Crossing, beginning at dusk.

The Kalamazoo Speedway was scheduled to have the Intimidator 100 and the season opener on July 3. Fireworks are expected to take place after the races, which start at 7:30 p.m. It was canceled on July 2, 2020.

South Park in Dorr was expected to hold the 2020 Fourth of July celebration starting July 2. Fireworks were expected to be set off at 10:20 p.m. on the Fourth of July. It was canceled on July 2, 2020.

Union City was expected to set off fireworks at the Union City High School at 10 p.m. July 3. The Rotary Club said there would be no field games and no concessions. Also, the public would not be allowed to enter Alumni Field even to use the restroom. The Union City Rotary Club is also asking for donations to help pay for the fireworks.

The Portland City fireworks show was expected to take place on July 3, but was canceled according to Portland Parks and Recreation Director Neil Brown.

The Kalamazoo Growlers were expected to hold a fireworks show on July 24, 2020, for their Independence Day show.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources issued warnings about setting off fireworks in the dry weather.
